Lenovo's AeroBlade concept ditches fans entirely for solid-state cooling

A sub-10mm ThinkBook concept uses Frore's AirJet chips to stay cool and near-silent without a single moving part.

Lenovo is showing off a concept laptop at IFA 2026 called Project AeroBlade that swaps traditional fan-based cooling for solid-state airflow. The 14-inch machine is under 10mm thick and weighs less than 1.8 pounds, noticeably slimmer and lighter than current ThinkPad X1 Carbon models.

The trick is Frore Systems' AirJet technology, which uses piezoelectric membranes vibrating rapidly to push air through the chassis instead of spinning blades. That eliminates fan noise almost entirely, putting the AeroBlade's acoustic profile in MacBook-quiet territory, while also freeing up internal space normally reserved for fan assemblies and heat pipes.

As with most concept hardware, there's no word yet on pricing, availability, or which chips it could actually cool under sustained load.

Why it matters: Fans are one of the last big mechanical bottlenecks in laptop design, limiting how thin and quiet devices can get. If solid-state cooling like AirJet can handle real thermal loads reliably at scale, it could reshape ultrabook design the way SSDs reshaped storage - though concept demos rarely translate directly into shipping products.
