Windows 11 Insider Builds Bring a Speedier File Explorer and Trimmed-Down Context Menu
Microsoft has rolled out new Windows 11 preview builds to Insiders that focus on making File Explorer feel snappier, alongside a redesigned context menu meant to cut down on clutter. The changes aim to address long-standing complaints that Explorer can feel sluggish, especially when navigating large folders or network drives.
The updated context menu also gives users more control over which options appear when right-clicking files and folders, letting people hide entries they never use. This continues Microsoft's slow rollback toward a menu structure closer to the more complete right-click experience from Windows 10, after Windows 11's initial redesign was widely criticized for burying common actions behind a 'Show more options' click.
As with all Insider features, these changes are experimental and could be delayed, altered, or scrapped before reaching general availability.
