Genki Debuts Manta, a Screen-Equipped Controller Built for Deep Customization

Genki's first from-scratch controller swaps convention for a chunky design centered on a 2.9-inch LCD and fully adjustable inputs.

Genki, previously known for teaming up with 8BitDo on a gamepad, has now designed its own controller entirely in-house. The Manta breaks from typical layouts by placing the thumbsticks and face buttons above a 2.9-inch LCD screen, giving it a noticeably bulkier profile than most competitors.

The standout feature is customization depth: players can use the built-in screen to tweak settings directly on the controller, and both the buttons and thumbsticks can be physically adjusted to fit individual preferences rather than relying only on software remapping.

Genki is launching the Manta through Kickstarter, with early backers able to preorder ahead of a wider release.

Why it matters: Screens on controllers have mostly been marketing gimmicks, but pairing one with genuine hardware-level adjustability suggests Genki is targeting serious players who want ergonomic control rather than just a novelty display. If it delivers, it could push bigger controller makers to rethink how much physical customization they offer out of the box.
