Fairphone Finally Sells a Phone Directly in the US
Dutch phone maker Fairphone is officially entering the US market with the Fairphone 6 Plus, priced at $649.99 and sold unlocked through its own website and Amazon. The phone works with both T-Mobile and AT&T networks.
This marks a shift for the company: previous Fairphone models sold in the US were only available through a partnership with Murena, maker of the privacy-focused /e/OS Android fork. That meant US buyers couldn't get Fairphone's software experience without going through a third party. Now, Fairphone is handling US sales itself.
Hardware-wise, the 6 Plus is a modest upgrade over last year's model, but the bigger story is the direct US retail presence and pricing - which is €50 more expensive in Europe than its predecessor, suggesting rising component or compliance costs are being passed to buyers.
