AWS Acquires DuckLabs, the Company Behind DuckDB
DuckLabs, the commercial entity behind the open-source DuckDB project, announced it is joining AWS. DuckDB has become a favorite among data engineers and analysts for its fast, embeddable SQL engine that runs analytical queries locally without needing a full database server, often described as "SQLite for analytics."
The acquisition puts one of the most beloved open-source data tools of the past few years under the wing of the world's largest cloud provider. DuckLabs says the core DuckDB project will remain open source, but details on governance, licensing, and how tightly future development will tie to AWS services are still emerging.
